Tales of the Abyss (US) - Natalia Solo (No Damage) - Final Boss

The completion of my very first no damage run. There really isn’t much to say about Van here. Very anticlimactic last boss, and I was out to destroy him here – not beat him, but destroy him, or as Asch would put it “Not stop – Kill!”. Luke took about 20 minutes, and even if the Aerial Laser spell canceling chains get on your nerves by now, I think they’re better than prolonging this pretty redundant fight. I only take my time to fool around at the end, because Van of course had to guard some 10k HP before his death, forcing me to activate an OVL in order not to take damage…And I’ll be damned not to end this run with a Mystic Arte, so I had to taunt a bit right before the end. But on the flip-side, this made Van look even more helpless, adding to destroy/”Kill!” aspect (and doesn’t it look a bit too daring of me to evade Infernal Prison at 14:43? :-P). And one correction of some info I provided in the description of Luke’s final fight: during the first battle, Van actually has a scripted OVL activation after the cutscene. Van can only use it before doing Celestial Elegy, so chances are you might not see it (since he only activates it when you’re in rather close proximity). So yeah, there you have it. After about half a year, this run is done, and looking back at how it all started, I can’t help but wonder. After wrapping up my Alvin run, I started working on Abyss, having forgotten so much of my 5 previous party runs, and not knowing what I was getting into. Even so, I couldn’t ignore how Abyss had so many skills facilitating and simplifying the game, so I was ready to start out with no Free Run and no Glory. At first, I was being vague about using HP recovery skills, but after some battles with Luke, I refused to use any HP recovering means with both characters. I thought that’d be enough challenge, but as time and battles passed by, and seeing how other people running Abyss like Magnus Blade and omegaevolution were doing better than me, I wanted more. I tried my best to no damage battles after a certain point, but without actually believing I would manage to pull the entire thing off. And I'm pretty sure it wouldn't have been possible for me without MrVesperia101 starting his Natalia run. Frankly, he was showing more skill with Natalia than I did at that point, and I learned a lot from his playstyle. Even later in the run, he still came up with new ideas for how to deal with certain bosses (like the Star Embrace/Aerial Laser infinite on Kaiser Dist XX), opening the way for a full no damage/no Free Run run. After seeing his Kaiser Dist XX fight, I was dead certain on no damaging Abyss with Natalia, and now, it's done. Still can't believe how my entire mindset changed while running Abyss, and how much I learned about the game (but while still having a lot to learn; it's not like everything is clear and known now). But enough of this cheesy little history of the run. I know there's Luke who wants his no damage, so I got some work left to do. Anyway, thank you for watching my Natalia!
