His works are still read today, his sparkling comedies and the aesthetic tragedy "Salome" continue to grace the stages of theaters (including in Ukraine), and the novel "The Picture of Dorian Gray" has been adapted for the screen multiple times. Wilde was a leading figure in European aestheticism and modernism. He wrote about himself that he tried all possible pleasures in life and regretted none. However, an unbridled thirst for enjoyment and the pursuit of absolute creative freedom led him to disaster, from which Wilde never recovered until the very end. How an idol of millions and a wealthy man turned into an object of humiliation and poverty, kicked out of cheap hotels for non-payment and not allowed into respectable cafes, and how his works found their way to Ukraine through the Solovetsky and Mordovian camps – watch in the video.
