Part 3 Digging an Off Grid Well by Hand

Another week and another few layers of stone. Building a well in this way is such a slow going process. Sometimes, it can take a half an hour just to find one rock that will fit into a certain spot. I did begin to second guess my ability to keep stacking stones without the threat of collapse once I hit ground level. As an extra precaution, I decided that it would be best to add just a little mortar between the inner and outer layer of stones. I just don’t want to risk any future problems and I want to be able to sleep at night knowing that my family will be safe using the well. I am hopeful that I will be able to complete the stone stacking with one more week of work so that I can begin to build a cover for the well. #finland #forestlife #homestead #offgridliving #watersource
