Christians in Pakistan shocked after angry mob torches churches, homes

Distraught Christians sifted through their gutted homes and destroyed belongings on Thursday, a day after a mob burned churches and houses in a Christian settlement in eastern Pakistan, accusing two of its members of desecrating the Quran. Provincial government leader Mohsin Naqvi promised to compensate for the losses in Jaranwala and said it would take three to four days to restore complete order in the area. Critics say Pakistan's blasphemy law is often misused against Pakistan's tiny minority groups and even sometimes against Muslims to settle personal scores.
