Jeffrey Lundgren was a devout follower of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (RLDS), upset with the progressive direction the church was headed in. He began preaching the “right way” to practice the faith, prompting leaders to excommunicate him. A small group of members chose to follow Jeffrey and live with him on a farm. He was an erratic cult leader who convinced them that they had to carry out a blood sacrifice to meet God. Jeffrey then systematically shot and killed all five members of the Avery family, who were a part of his group, with the youngest being 6 years old.
