I put the TikTok clip out yesterday as a bit of fun showing different languages' use of initial "ng" – Vietnamese, Thai, and Indonesian – but actually, it's a feature in many languages in this part of the world: Cantonese, Khmer, Thai, Lao, Indonesian, Malay, Tagalog, and many Austronesian languages like Tongan, Samoan, and Maori. This is one sound you can't fudge and hope you'll get away with it. In this clip, I go through how to gradually build the muscles up to be able to take control of your tongue and your throat and finally pronounce the initial "ng" correctly.
