Knowing how to classify verb transitivity is one of the most frequently tested skills in syntactic analysis on public service exams — and those who get it wrong here often also get it wrong in verb government, agreement, and identification of complements. It's a point that contaminates the entire syntax. In this lesson, Professor Rayane França explains in a complete and didactic way the five types of verbs regarding transitivity: intransitive verb (VI), which does not require a complement; transitive verb (VTD), which requires a direct object without a preposition; transitive indirect verb (VTI), which requires an indirect object with a preposition; transitive direct and indirect verb (VTDI), which requires both complements at the same time; and linking verb (VL), also called a relational verb, which connects the subject to a predicate.
