[Tour guide narration and subtitles available] Oyamazumi Shrine, located on Omishima Island in Imabari City, Ehime Prefecture, is the heart of the Shimanami Kaido. It is the oldest shrine in Ehime Prefecture and is said to be the head shrine of the more than 10,000 Yamazumi and Mishima shrines across Japan. Its enshrined deity, Oyamatsumi-no-Kami, is the god of the mountains and also presides over war and maritime traffic. As a result, many weapons and swords dedicated during the reign of the Taira and Minamoto clans remain. Additionally, ancient camphor trees, including the "Ochi no Mikoto Oteue no Kusunoki" (Campus Tree Planted by Ochi no Mikoto), have been designated as national natural monuments.
