Émilie has just had her first child. Like all mothers, she films the first moments of her son Marius. But very quickly, something surprises her: Marius doesn't react to the sounds of his father's trombone. The diagnosis is delivered: he is profoundly deaf. Marius wouldn't hear a Boeing taking off next to him. Thus begins a forced immersion into an unknown world, made up of medical appointments, waiting, hopes, and doubts. The couple must reinvent their daily life, learn sign language, and rethink their future. Using intimate footage filmed over three years, the film tells the story from the inside: the shock of the diagnosis, the denial, and then the slow path to acceptance. Until the day the couple discovers that a complex operation could give Marius hearing. This cochlear implant opens up a new perspective, but also raises profound questions. Throughout her journey, Émilie meets deaf people with diverse backgrounds and choices: some have opted for cochlear implants, others have refused them. They all reveal a complex reality, far removed from preconceived notions. Through this personal story, the film sheds light on a largely invisible community: the deaf and hard-of-hearing community, which nevertheless represents 7 million people in France. It also questions our relationship to norms, disability, and difference. An intimate and universal documentary about parenthood, resilience, and the discovery of a world we too rarely see.
