St Helens in the 1950s - David Williams and Gratten Williams

Geoff Williams was a professional photographer who ran 'Central Studios' at 16 George Street, St Helens from c1950-1970. His son (David Williams) and nephew (Gratten Williams) discuss life and changes from St Helens in the 1950s, in response to photographs taken by Geoff Williams that were uncovered as part of the 'St Helens Through The Lens' project. St Helens Through The Lens was a 10 month Heritage Lottery Fund supported project, based in St Helens Local History & Archive Library in 2016/17. The project preserved, digitised and made accessible over 3000 glass plate negatives that made up the Geoff Williams Photography Collection. This collection includes images of weddings, portraits, events, sport, work and industry, community celebrations and more; a real snapshot of St Helens life in the 1950s.
