Brenner Base Tunnel: the longest railway tunnel in the world - Geopop/Webuild

Once completed, the 64-kilometre Brenner Base Tunnel will redefine rail connections between Northern and Southern Europe, strengthening sustainable mobility and helping reduce the environmental impact of transport across the Alpine region. The project is part of the Munich–Verona railway axis and forms the central element of the Scandinavian–Mediterranean Corridor of the TEN-T network. It is also its most crucial section, as it allows for the crossing of the natural barrier of the Alps. In this video, we show you the different excavation techniques used during the construction of what will become the longest railway tunnel in the world once completed. Once we enter the construction site, we will see how, based on the types of terrain, the methods for tunneling range from traditional methods to the more modern TBMs, including the freezing technique.
