Can a $4,300 Solar System Really Run Our Airbnb? (16kWh Battery Test)

With electricity prices soaring — especially here in the Philippines where power is some of the most expensive in Asia — more people are turning to solar to take control of their power costs. So we decided to put it to the test. In this video we install a 7.2kW solar system with a 6kW inverter and a 16kWh lithium battery from our friends at Humseink on our new 2-bedroom Airbnb in Bohol to see if a relatively affordable solar setup can actually power an entire home. The total system cost came in at around $4,300 USD (₱250,000 installed) — significantly cheaper than many solar systems people are quoted. But the real question is: Can a system at this price point actually run an entire house, not just during the day but all night. without using the grid? We document the full installation, explain how the system works, break down the real costs, and test the battery running real appliances like air-conditioning, fridge, hot water, kitchen appliances and more. Based on the electricity usage from our other two-bedroom Airbnb, we estimate the system could pay for itself in around 3.7 years, while also protecting us from power outages that can disrupt guests and lead to refunds.
