Yoga in prison: between rehabilitation and regulation, significant results in 10 weeks
đ§ đ€đ± Meet Josefin Wikström, Florence Bernard's sixth guest in the "Quantum Way Chronicles â Trauma Edition". Discover a new interview with a trauma specialist every Friday throughout the summer. đ«đ· French version of the video :    âąÂ Yoga en prison : entre rĂ©insertion et rĂ©gu...  Josefin Wikström has been working for 19 years with yoga inside prisons and with the Prison Yoga Project (PYP) since 2015, offering trauma-informed yoga classes to incarcerated individuals and prison staff. She is the European Director of Programs and Lead Trainer in Europe for PYP. Josefin began her work in Sweden, where positive results were observed in the largest randomized control study conducted on the program. She co-created the Swedish Krimyoga program and trained prison staff to teach yoga. The Prison Yoga Project, founded by James Fox at San Quentin in 2003, is the largest non-profit organization implementing trauma-informed yoga, and it has expanded to 11 countries (including France) and 28 U.S. states. Josefin explains that trauma-informed yoga is essential in prisons to help individuals manage the stress of confinement, which includes a lack of safety, predictability, and control. These programs significantly improve mental health, impulse control, and emotional regulation. Despite some challenges, the integration of yoga into prison systems continues to expand, offering better care to incarcerated populations worldwide and promoting rehabilitation while reducing recidivism through innovative and therapeutic methods. âșâșâș Timestamps 00:00 Introduction to the Prison Yoga Project 03:47 Particularities of trauma-sensitive yoga in prison settings 05:01 Motivation and participation of prisoners 06:23 Funding and program support 09:27 Research findings and the impact of yoga on mental health 16:13 Testimonials from inmates, prison officials and members of Prison Yoga Project âșâșâș Who is Josefin Wikstrom?
