Der Heilige Geist - Credo 09. Bischof Stefan Oster

In the third part of the Creed, we confess: "I believe in the Holy Spirit." When we speak of spirits, we often think of white, semi-transparent beings that fly through the air and sometimes inspire fear. The term used in the Creed is different. The Holy Spirit? Who is that? The Holy Spirit – we believe – is the true power that animates the Church and preserves it through time. Without him, we are lost and helpless. He is a mysterious force and, at the same time, the third person in the Trinity: God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit. And he is the bond of love between Father and Son. But what is the Holy Spirit with regard to us? The Holy Spirit helps us live more truthfully and empowers people to have more healing relationships. If that is the case, how is it possible that our Church looks the way it does and that we can have bad and hurtful experiences there? How can it be that there is no "holy world" there? Paul says at one point that we can believe that the Holy Spirit is truly at work when we learn to call God "Father." In this way, we take on the spirit of Jesus in a certain sense and learn to become more and more ourselves while simultaneously living in unity. The Holy Spirit has another attribute: He bestows anointing. What does that mean? And how can the anointing be obtained? Bishop Stefan Oster talks about this in the ninth video on the Creed.
