Nunca Me dijeron ¿Por qué se llama Carraízo? | Puerto Rico

Today, we visited Lake Carraízo, located between the municipalities of Gurabo, Caguas, and Trujillo Alto, forming part of the Río Grande de Loíza. On this occasion, along with a group of good friends, including my friend Juan Lozada, I was invited to have this adventurous experience, and we set out to explore the lake's waters for the first time, by kayak, no less! Yes, you heard right, kayak. These small boats are mostly made of polyethylene plastic, some of fiberglass, and even some of wood. Although they may seem simple, their construction is a marvel of ancient nautical engineering, originating in the indigenous communities of the Arctic, approximately 4,000 years ago, where they were used for hunting and fishing in cold waters. Later, in the 19th century, they were introduced to Europe, becoming a recreational activity and evolving into sports and leisure activities.
