Onojicho is located in the Tama Hills in the northern part of Machida City, and is one of the leading Satoyama areas in Tokyo. During the Edo period, it flourished as a post town on the Oyama Kaido road. At the end of the Edo period, there were about six inns. The current "Onojijuku Satoyama Exchange Center" is said to be the site of the inn "Kadoya." In addition, the Futama Road, which Kondo Isami of the Shinsengumi took when he visited Onoji to teach swordsmanship, and the Kamakura Kaido Kamimichi, which Nitta Yoshisada took when attacking Kamakura, passed through the area, showing that it was a key transportation hub. We circled the route shown in the "Guide Map for the Area around Onojijuku Satoyama Exchange Center" on the Machida City website in a clockwise direction from the Ono Shrine intersection. There are some parts along the way that face the "Zushi Onoji Historical Environment Conservation Area." This area is a no-bicycle zone. Most of the other routes were not bicycle-friendly either. Therefore, rather than pottering, 90% of the entire journey was "walking" while pushing or carrying a bicycle.
