SCA Rules for Edgar Lungu Family: Zambia Government Abandons Court Fight Over Burial

The Zambian government says it has officially thrown in the towel after Supreme Court of Appeal in South Africa - the SCA - ruled in favour of the family of the late Zambian President Dr Edgar Lungu and upheld their appeal regarding his remains. Lungu died on the 5th of June last year. The High Court in Pretoria in August last year found the Zambian government was entitled to repatriate Lungu's remains for the purposes of a State funeral and burial. However the SCA has now set aside that High Court order and found that the Zambian government failed to establish a right under either the common law or contract to override the family's burial decision.
