“The essential ingredients to a Successful Marriage” - Shaykh Ninowy
Sheikh Ninowy starts off with the Verse of An-Nisa Aya 59: "And if you have a dispute concerning any matter, refer it to Allah and the messenger if you are (in truth) believers in Allah and the Last Day. That is better and more seemly in the end." Sheikh Ninowy then gives examples of how the Prophet ﷺ realized communication and empathy with his wifes. The Prophet ﷺ noticed by Aisha's speech her mode. When Aishah was angry or jealous, the Prophet ﷺ reacted calmly and sensitively. He ﷺ called Aisha by her nickname "Aish", took her for nightly walks and repeatedly showed his love and affection through romantic gestures. Thus, when drinking from the same container as Aisha, the Prophet ﷺ once looked for the place from which Aisha drank to drink from exactly the same place. His wifes are also role models in their communication and in their relationship with the Prophet ﷺ. Khadija was always an indispensable support, believing in him while he was slandered by his people. His wife Umm Salamma built up the Prophet ﷺ and gave him effective advice. Stories related to marriage from the life of our beloved Prophet are explained in this video with reference from Muhaddith Sheikh Ninowy. Sheikh Ninowy dives deep in creating the sense of connection required to overcome the stumbling blocks that come in every relationship. Marriage in Islam is an act of worship hence every difficulty faced should relay to the Quran and ahadith for guidance and recreate that home within the two. The ingredients to a successful marriage are copious amounts of love and mercy. Loving each other regardless of those imperfections and showing mercy through struggling times. Sheikh Ninowy outlines 4 aspects we seek before marriage : Financial stability, social status, beauty and religiosity. As mentioned before imperfections are evident and finding someone will all those qualities is next to impossible but as the Nabi Mohammed (saw) said "if you like somebody's Deen and akhlaq marry them." although Deen cannot be measured, manners can, Deen is the manifestation of Akhlaq. Seeking someone with Deen is more important than seeking someone with attributes that cannot withstand the test of time such as beauty, riches and social status. When in marriage establishing a connection with Allah (swa) is vital as it in return establishes a connection within the couple. Sheikh Ninowy highlights that living your life with innocence shall further prevail success and by innocence it means to prohibit grudges, when in anger do not turn a blind eye to the good things that had happened. It's important to create time both for the sake of Allah and for each other. Remember it is essential have honor and dignity within every relationship certainly the maintenance of that is not cheap thus in hindsight marriage might seem as a set of trials and tribulations yet to endeavor nevertheless strengthening the connection with your Creator as a couple shall only exude success.
