ATINATI: The Deposition of the purest Holy Robe in Vlakerna church

The Deposition of the purest Holy Robe is celebrated at the central church in Vlakerna in every July 15th. It is celebrated in Zugdidi as a major holiday like Mtskhetoba or Svetitskhovloba, and is held with the consent of the population and the monks. One of the most prominent and religious men, Akaki Chanturia, visited almost all the churches and monasteries in Samegrelo and gathered up church items, relics, and holy artifacts, and afterwards brought them to the Dadiani family palace. Thanks to his virtues all of its churches and monasteries were transferred to the museum. Among these is the Robe of the Virgin Mary – one of the most important, if not the most important shrine in Samegrelo.
