Vasyl Oleksandrovych Barvinsky (1888-1963) — was a Ukrainian composer, pianist, music critic, teacher, conductor, and music related social figure. An outstanding representative of Ukrainian musical culture of the twentieth century. The cycle — five preludes for piano was written in 1908. The preludes were written in the early period of the composer's career and are characterized by impressionistic flavor.
