Sri Lanka is a very rich country in terms of biodiversity. In this country too, there is an area called Biodiversity hot spot where the highest biodiversity can be seen in a small plot of land. That is Arana, who is crying. Kanneliya is the largest (5,305.9 hectare) forest in the 10,857 hectare Kanneliya-Dediyagala-Nakiadenia (KDN) forest complex designated by UNESCO as a Man & Biosphere Reserve in 2004 and the most visited by tourists. Kanneliya Forest is found after about 1.5 km on the Kanneliya road which turns from Korale village on the B 429 road from Udugama to Hiniduma in Galle district. This forest, which is a lowland humid tropical rain forest, is mainly nourished by the southwest monsoon between May and September. The annual rainfall is between 3500 – 4500 mm.
