Tetris Worlds: Marathon (Tetris), 10th Degree Master in 13:31, 290 lines

A turning point in Tetris history: Tetris Worlds, the very first Tetris Guideline game, came out on Game Boy Advance in September 2001. Versions on other current 6th-gen consoles followed shortly after. Featuring standardized rainbow colors, next queue, hold piece, ghost piece, lock delay, T-Spins, and the flexible Super Rotation System, the Tetris Guideline would literally set the standard for all new Tetris games moving forward, making Tetris playable for a wide spectrum of skill levels. Here in the basic Marathon mode, I become a 10th Degree Tetris Master, which appears to be the highest possible grade in this game. This early version of Marathon requires players to reach line clear goals instead of 10 lines per level, encouraging powerful line clears (for example, a Tetris is worth 8 goal points, 12 if back-to-back.) The mandatory Tetris Guideline ruleset, "World Rule," in the 2005 Arika game Tetris: The Grand Master 3: Terror-Instinct, was likely named after this game.
