North Yorkshire Moors Railway & Thirsk Railway Station
Tommy turned 6 years old back in February and for his birthday, we got him a trip on his favourite steam train, Sir Nigel Gresley. Before we headed to Pickering, we decided to visit Thirsk for the first time for a bit of trainspotting. We were glad to add that station to the list of stations Tommy has visited but it wasn't the best for spotting. The platforms are split by the east coast mainline but that is fenced off making it difficult to see, especially at Tommy's height and even Mammy's height. We decided it was best for Tommy to go on Daddy's shoulders so he could see and Mammy did the recording. The best thing about Thirsk Railway Station was that we met Janet who works there and also recognised Tommy as soon as we asked for the key to the loo. She was so lovely to chat to and she even made an announcement for Tommy over the tannoy 😁 After Thirsk, we headed east towards Pickering and had a little walk around before heading to the station. It was packed with eager enthusiasts waiting for Sir Nigel to arrive and when he did, he looked stunning. There was a class 37 on the back which also sounded fantastic. We watched them shunt before taking our seat in one of the carriages and headed towards Grosmont. At Grosmont, we had 30 minutes to grab some ice lollies from a local shop (to compliment the beer, prosecco and juice we had on the train) before heading back to Pickering. Tommy loved his birthday treat and we all went home happy (and tired). If you enjoyed my video, please like and leave a comment. After seeing some older boys creating videos of trains at our local station, we were inspired to give it a go ourselves. Our main aim is to have fun spending quality father/son time together whilst creating videos of interesting trains at lots of different stations, waving at the drivers to show how much we appreciate them. Sometimes they wave back, sometimes they blast the horn and other times, they're busy doing their important job. Daddy records whilst Tommy stays in front of the camera. We have lots of fun but SAFETY is always our priority. We'd love to hear your feedback and any suggestions of interesting places to visit for my next video. Cut 🙂
