Ford Escape 2017 Liftgate problems PART 1

Here is part 2:    • Ford Escape 2017 Liftgate problems PART 2   Seems to be an electrical problem, not mechanical. UPDATE SOLUTION 12/29/19: so I took it to the dealer and they said the latch was shorting. Of course, it was 3 yrs and 3 mos old, so nothing under warranty. Ford wanted $1000 to fix which is INSANE. I asked for the part number: GJ5Z-7443150-B. They said it would be unwise to try and fix myself. Undeterred, I bought it at FordPartsGiant.com for $151. Removed the plastic panels from the liftgate (some youtube videos helped; there is one screw under the grab-handle, otherwise everything just pops off carefully). Removed three screws and an electrical connector to remove the latch mechanism. Screwed in the new one and plugged in. Replaced all the plastic. GOOD AS NEW. Kaboom. Anyone can do this. It is not difficult or complicated. Hope the same works for you. #notexactlybuiltfordtough
