Forintos competed at a high level from the late 1950s to the late 1980s, was a Grandmaster, an economist, an author, and a brilliant chess thinker. He once told me something that deeply shaped my understanding of practical play: “Give your opponents choices of a similar weight so they face tough decisions.” In other words, if you want to play for a win, don’t rely only on forcing moves. Make your opponent think. In this tribute I share: • A brief look at Forintos’ life and achievements • My personal experience with him and the advice he gave me • Details of the Forintos Memorial Festival taking place in Budapest • And a model game where Forintos demonstrates his own principle to perfection This video is my way of thanking the organizers for inviting me and of honoring the memory of a Grandmaster who left a lasting mark on chess and on those who learned from him. I hope you enjoy the story, the lesson, and the game. 00:00 Introduction 00:36 Forintos Chess Career 01:14 My experience with Forintos 02:30 Győző Forintos Memorial 2025 03:05 Bálint Vilmos - Győző Forintos, 2000.
