Where Are the Best Antique & Vintage Deals? Two Flea Markets Compared!

Today, we're heading across the southern Gulf Coast, checking out two flea markets in two states to hunt for vintage and antique treasures! Which one will be the best spot to find cool collectibles for our customers? First, we stop at Mobile Flea Market in Alabama, where permanent booths filled with new and vintage items meet last-minute sellers who show up with their goods in the back of trucks. From soda bottle thermometers and celebrity autographs to furniture (and even bunnies and chicks), this place is littered with interesting finds. Our picks include a turned wood Irish coffee set, a stylish shelf unit, and a fascinating book about the invasion of Guam. Then it’s on to 49th Antique & Flea Market, a building with a wide porch festooned with vintage advertising signs that would make American Pickers stop and take notice! This market blends antique mall vibes with flea market energy, and while there’s no outdoor dealers today, indoors has some amazing shops set up as general stores, a military museum and even the old Hamburg, Mississippi Post Office! But it’s between these vignettes where the real deals are, and I can’t resist the space where a bunch of art deco and mid-century kitchen and housewares are just $3 and $5! We comb through half-price booths, spot great things like true antique washing machines and a pile of primitives, and ultimately come out with a box of treasures to take to our upcoming Florida shows. So which flea market was better? It’s all in the eye of the beholder!
