Highlander Rear Temperature Control Replacement

Rear temperature control replacement 2008 Highlander Rear temperature control replacement 2009 Highlander Rear temperature control replacement 2010 Highlander Although there were improvements and part number changes, the rear temp control unit is interchangeable from 2008 through 2010. In this video I diagnose, attempt to repair, and ultimately replace the rear temp control panel on my 2009 with one from a 2010. Many Highlanders were equipped with "automatic" controllers. These have an LCD screen which displays the desired temp. They are not interchangeable with the "manual" types. In many cases simply snugging down the tabs will fix the problem. In this case the tiny wiper fingers inside the potentiometer were damaged. I was able to get it working but it was too fragile to return to service so I chose to replace the controller so the next owner would be good to go. I edited out the vast majority of the diagnostic procedures and attempted repair in order to speed things along. The part I needed is not even shown in the Toyota tech ref. All you see there is a module block so there was no way for me to identify the part without wading through lots of manufacturer catalogs. So sad that component level repair has become almost a thing of the past.
