A month and a half after the military invasion of Ukraine, more than 4.2 million Ukrainians, or one in ten, have been forced to flee the country (as of April 5). A Ukrainian family of three arrived in Fukui Prefecture late at night on April 3. They are originally from the battlefield of Sumy. They barely escaped their beloved town and were reunited with their mother in Italy. After a 50-hour journey, they were reunited in Fukui City late at night on April 3. This is the first time the prefecture has welcomed refugees. An older sister longs for Ukraine, more than 5,000 kilometers away. A younger sister overcame numerous life-threatening situations to escape to Fukui.
