Travertines Travertines are calcareous terraces formed over the millennia due to hot mineral springs rich in calcium. Water saturated with calcium and other minerals flowed down the slopes, leaving layers of sediments that formed natural pools. The water temperature in the springs varies from +35 to +100 °C. It is located on the territory of a natural and cultural site that includes the ancient city of Hierapolis and the travertine pools of Pamukkale. The pool is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Side is an ancient city on the Mediterranean coast in modern Turkey (Antalya province, Manavgat district). It was an important commercial, cultural and religious center in antiquity, and today its ruins are a popular tourist attraction. Salda Lake is a freshwater crater reservoir in southwestern Turkey, which is often called the "Turkish Maldives" or "Saldivas" because of its snow—white shores and bright turquoise waters.
