He used Bjørn Jens as his stage name. Kristiansen grew up in Sandnessjøen on Helgeland. In his childhood he was an avid football player, and in the 70s he was a good goalkeeper in the 2nd Division of the time. Before breaking out as a musician he was a sailor in foreign trade, which many of his songs carry. Music has always been close to Kristiansen, and he has been playing in bands since 1976.
