The improved audio and video quality gave it more room for improvement (hopefully it’s a decent upgrade). Since the changes reflect my own take, I’ve upload the un-enhanced version (link somewhere above). I've tried to keep in the spirit of the recording by being delicate with any alterations. ▪️Audio: Optimized for higher volumes by reducing a persistent low level video cassete noise, normalizing levels to remove any clipping, and using equalizers for a fuller sound. The biggest challenge was balancing the hiss reduction, since too little was distracting but too much eat into the good audio. ▪️Visuals: Using video enhancement software to preserve the original look while reducing noise and sharpening lines for better clarity on larger screens. Some small colour correction including tweaks to contrast, saturation, shadows and highlights to improve visuals and to bring out some hidden detail. What’s the point of 4K with standard-definition footage? There are major gains from the software used to enhance to this resolution. Even if I just stretched it to 4K without any enhancement, the audio and video would still be better at all resolutions as YouTube switches to a superior codec (VP9) when uploading footage is at 1440p or higher. A ProRes (lossless) digital intermediate of the full enhanced concert was created to avoid an additional recode. The songs were uploaded to YouTube in the same format, but the full concert had to be compressed to a high quality .mp4 (h.265) before upload since YouTube’s upload limit is 256 GB. 🔹 This was created out of being tired of seeing the same old low quality Sneaky Pete’s footage on YouTube, always hoping someone would upload a better version but it never happened. After searching online I finally found someone kind enough to share it, and to my surprise it was the full concert. Since it was a copy from the video to DVD conversion, the audio and video were much better which left plenty of head room for an upgrade. Huge thanks to Andreas for sharing this.
