PUSHING LIMITS: Bikepacking Colorado's Vapor Trail with Traci

In July of 2024, Traci and I headed out to Salida for a 3-night, 3.5-day bikepacking adventure on Colorado's Vapor Trail. The Vapor Trail route file can be found on Bikepacking.com: https://bikepacking.com/routes/vapor-... The route traverses the traditional lands of the Ute people. The trail climbs out of Salida to the Collegiate Peaks and traverses the lower ridgelines of Mount Shavano, Mount White and Mount Antero on the Colorado Trail. From there, it ascends towards the ghost town of St. Elmo, first on the Narrow Gauge trail and then FR 162. Normally, the route would then take us on Alpine Tunnel Road, but in this case, it was closed for construction. We took Hancock Pass as a detour, then crossed Tomichi Pass. After a halted attempt up Canyon Creek Trail, we descended on FR 888. Next, we climbed Monarch Pass and traversed the Monarch Crest Trail before descending down Marshall Pass. We decided to camp just one more night instead of returning the easy ride back to Salida so we could extend our trip. We wild camped on Starvation Creek road.
