On this day In 1943, during World War II, the Allies launched Operation Husky, the invasion of Sicily. Here is a British Movietone report with highlights from the Operation. The invasion of Sicily by Allied Forces under the supreme command of General Eisenhower has begun. Fighters and bombers launched the attack, followed by the invasion itself led by Airborne troops. ® ® The seaborne landings came next along a wide stretch of coastline.
