Why use aftermarket wheel covers on a Tesla Model Y? (& do they protect your alloys?)

My Tesla Model Y has the 19" Gemini wheels but I have replaced the standard Tesla Gemini wheel covers with the Basenor wheel trims. These wheel trims are the "Turbo" variant and are styled to look similar to the 21" Uberturbine wheels that Tesla fits to the Performance Model Y. These Basenor wheel covers have a 4% improvement in efficiency (-10 wh/mi) over the standard Tesla Gemini covers. They also look better and protect the alloy wheel from kerbing better than the Tesla wheel covers. In this video I explain the purpose of wheel covers on an electric vehicle and why you should consider replacing your original Tesla Gemini wheel covers with aftermarket covers. Some aftermarket wheel trims, such as these Basenor ones, actually improve the efficiency even further than the Tesla Gemini covers. Aftermarket wheel trims protect the alloy wheel better than the Tesla Gemini covers because they cover the outer lip of the alloy wheel and therefore give you better protection against kerbing. But the main reason why most people change their wheel trims is to improve the looks and customise their EV. Following a recent bad parking incident, I kerbed my wheel. So in this video I look if the wheel trim protected the alloy wheel underneath. Another issue some people say is that aftermarket wheel trims can cause damage or scratching to the alloy wheels. My car has done nearly 10,000 miles with these Basenor wheel trims so in the video I look to see if there's any scratching where the clips are in contact with the spokes.
