Imágenes de Elena Garro en el Tiempo Subtitulada (Subtítulos de Pamela García Maldonado)

1) The day I saw Elena Garro for the first time, that unforgettable, magical moment, took place on November 12, 1991. (Patricia Rosas Lopátegui) In this television report, you can see and hear her, albeit briefly. The report covered the press conference given by Elena Garro when she made an appearance in Monterrey, Nuevo León. Museum of Contemporary Art (MARCO), Monterrey, November 12, 1991. Obviously, Elena Garro had to say what she was told to say, so as not to upset Octavio Paz, the intellectuals colluding with the government, or the Mexican government officials. She had to declare that she had “self-exiled” herself, as part of the government's propaganda, since in reality Elena Garro was forced into exile after the massacre perpetrated by the regime of Gustavo Díaz Ordaz on October 2, 1968, in Tlatelolco. The writer had confronted landowners in defense of peasants dispossessed of their lands and had defended democracy alongside Carlos Alberto Madrazo Becerra in the 1960s. 2) Channel 40, Mexico City, October 14, 1996. This interview premiered on September 30, 1996, on CNI Channel 40. That same day, Octavio Paz called Channel 40 demanding that a letter he had sent to the program be read, in which he refuted Elena Garro's claims. The letter, with his corrections, was read in voice-over at the end of the program. On the day of the second broadcast of this memorable interview (October 14, 1996), my sister Norma suddenly saw Elena Garro on the television screen and rushed to insert a VHS cassette to record it. Since the interview had already begun, she only managed to record a few segments. Available in print and eBook formats. 3) Regarding the announcement of Elena Garro's death, which occurred on August 22, 1998. There are several errors in the reporters' information, so I recommend consulting my books: "The Assassination of Elena Garro: Journalism Through a Biographical Perspective" (2nd ed., expanded, UANL, 2014), and "Dialogues with Elena Garro...", among others.
