🔴 Dancing and Dabke at Celebrations in Exchange for Freedom 🔴 She brought down Hafez al-Assad's regime on the walls of her school's toilets in al-Qusayr in 1991 Abdul Hafeez al-Hawlani #Zaman_alWasl 📍 She was arrested by the Political Security Branch in 1991 when she was not yet eighteen years old, making her the youngest political prisoner in Homs Governorate. 📍 Mona Abdul Karim al-Souqi was arrested for her opposition posts, not on social media, but on the walls of the toilets at Abdul Rahman Bakour High School in the city of al-Qusayr in the southern Homs countryside. She wrote in chalk: "Down with the agent of Israel, the seller of the Golan Heights, the traitor Hafez al-Assad." 📍 Her detention lasted a full year, during which she endured the most brutal forms of torture, including being subjected to the wheel, electric shocks, and beatings. She was also prevented from seeing her family at the hands of Lieutenant Colonel Issam al-Hallaj, who interrogated her along with his assistant, Muhammad Koussa, known as "Abu Fares," from the town of al-Raghama, east of Homs. 📍 She was released from detention by presidential pardon. However, the head of the Political Security branch in Homs, Brigadier General Nasr Daoud Jaafar, stipulated that she dance at a ceremony renewing allegiance to the regime in exchange for her freedom. 📍 She participated in the revolution against the regime of Bashar al-Assad, providing food and medicine to the residents of her besieged city of al-Qusayr. 📌 After the fall of her city, she sought refuge in Lebanon, where she was arrested by military intelligence, the Ministry of Defense, and General Security on charges of participating in the overthrow of the former regime. 📌 She then moved to the liberated north of Syria with the help of smugglers to escape the pressure and security persecution she faced in Lebanon.
