Great-grandchildren of Jews are not included in the list of those eligible for aliyah (immigration to Israel). This means that the "fourth generation" (great-grandchildren of Jews) are not eligible to return to Israel. However, the Ministry of Interior has developed a regulation that allows great-grandchildren to immigrate to Israel through gradual legalization of their status. This right is granted only to great-grandchildren who are under 18 and immigrating with their parents. The usual restrictions apply to the immigration process for "four-generation" great-grandchildren, such as a clean criminal record and the need to prove the relatives' Jewishness. Four-generation great-grandchildren who meet the requirements of the regulation receive a one-year residence permit, which can be extended for an additional two years. After this period, they are eligible for permanent residence or citizenship in Israel. The "center of life" requirement is a requirement that a family must meet for the regulation to apply to the child. According to this requirement, the great-grandchild of a Jewish parent must immigrate to Israel for permanent residence with their immigrant parents, be under 18 years of age at the time of application, and the entire family must spend 9.5-10 months in Israel each calendar year. If the family violates this requirement, the application may be cancelled, and the great-grandchild's status will be revoked. The process of obtaining fourth-generation citizenship involves three stages: obtaining a one-year residence permit, renewing the residence permit for three years, and naturalization or obtaining permanent residency status.
