World Cup ticket woes turn into once in a lifetime moment after chance encounter with Prime Minister
What began as a scramble to salvage a long-planned soccer trip to Houston turned into a VIP experience for two World Cup fans after an unexpected encounter with the prime minister of Curaçao. Christian and Mathi Ott traveled to Houston to watch Germany take on Curaçao in a FIFA Club World Cup match. Mathi said the original purchase was refunded to his mother’s credit card, but the pair was already at the stadium gates and needed another way in. With no tickets available on the FIFA website, Mathi said he turned to StubHub and found tickets for about $700 apiece. After attending the match, the trip took another turn the next day when their flight home was delayed. While waiting at the airport, the two decided to sit at a bar, where they started talking with a man and his wife about their weekend and the problems they had run into.
