The bush needs enough vegetative mass to set a sufficient number of flower buds for next year. Prune with a clean tool. After pruning, treat for disease and pests. You can also add foliar fertilizer to the sidewall mixture. I use monopotassium phosphate, but any other complex fertilizer can be used.
