I visited Eungbongsan Mountain in Uljin, one of the 100 famous mountains of the Baekdudaegan! The course I chose is unique in Korea for being the only one where you can encounter naturally gushing hot spring water on the hiking trail. It is a course where you can relieve the fatigue of the hike by soaking your feet in the open-air Deokgu Hot Spring bath on the way down. I also had an unexpected encounter during the descent. I came across a herd of mountain goats on the trail. It was truly fascinating to see them grazing on grass without showing much wariness of humans, refusing to move out of the way for quite some time. A few years ago, the area around Mt. Eungbong suffered significant damage from a large forest fire. I felt relieved to see the mountain goats, a natural monument, active in this area again.
