Les catholiques à Atar, une présence missionnaire en Mauritanie

In Atar, in west-central Mauritania, only six foreign Catholics live among the nearly 30,000 inhabitants, all of whom are Muslim. The Catholic Mission provides support to the most vulnerable, particularly through education, to combat illiteracy, which affects 46% of the population. At the Holy Spirit parish, a few Muslims come to offer their assistance. Every day, they lead workshops in computer skills, sewing, hairdressing, and French for about fifty young people eager to learn a trade. The four sisters of the Daughters of Charity congregation in Atar run a center for people with disabilities and a tutoring program for at-risk youth. Their Christian presence is discreet, expressed through their daily life of prayer, listening, and solidarity with those they encounter each day.
