In this twelfth video of the chess fundamentals series, FM Elliott explains the three most fundamental forms of checkmating the lone king. The covered scenarios are: Queen + King vs King: Use the queen to cut off files and ranks and move the king towards the enemy king. Push the opponent's king to one of the board corners and checkmate him. 2 Rooks + King vs King: Use the shown "Rook Roller" pattern to checkmate the opponent. Rook + King vs King: Use the rook to push the opponent's king backwards. In order to deliver checkmate, use the own king for the attack with the opposition pattern.
