1971: The Man Who Scratches for a Living | Look Stranger | BBC Archive
"I don't feel ambitious at all... just to sit down and do me day's scratching and fiddling about, pottering around. I'm not a tycoon - don't think I ever will be." Malcolm Appleby might be the most brilliant young engraver alive. Two years ago, Malcolm saw the potential in a secluded, derelict, Victorian railway station on Deeside near Balmoral. He is painstakingly repairing the dilapidated building, and converting it into a workshop - where he makes beautifully intricate handcrafted engravings - and a home that allows him to be surrounded by the nature which inspires him. Clip taken from Look Stranger: He Scratches for a Living, originally broadcast on BBC Two, 27 October, 1971.
