Tourism Secretariat Promotes Fifth Huapango Arribeño Festival and First National Dance Competition in San Ciro de Acosta San Ciro de Acosta – The Tourism Secretariat, in coordination with the San Ciro de Acosta City Council, officially presented the Fifth Huapango Arribeño Festival – an event that seeks to promote the cultural roots of the central region of the state. During the announcement, the Secretary of Tourism, Yolanda Josefina Cepeda Echavarría, emphasized the impact of promoting these festivities. “...San Luis Potosí as one of the most important destinations in Mexico to visit... Thank you for being a national benchmark for this National Huapango Competition in this beautiful municipality.” For his part, the mayor, Luis Carlos Pereyra Govea, highlighted the evolution of the cultural event since its inception. “We are here to present the Fifth Huapango Festival in San Ciro de Acosta. Since 2022, we have been holding a huapango festival, where we also feature Huastec huapango and, of course, our own Arribeño huapango.” This year, the festival will feature the first National Huapango Arribeño Dance Competition on July 10th and 11th, aiming to make the municipality a national leader in the field. The mayor emphasized the importance of creating this event. “I want to mention that approximately eight states in Mexico—within those states, in various cities and municipalities—hold huapango competitions, but absolutely all of them are for Huastec huapango. There isn't a single one for Arribeño huapango; therefore, San Ciro de Acosta will be the first in the country to host this competition.” Finally, Mónica Lisset Pereyra, head of the Municipal System for the Integral Development of the Family (DIF), provided details about the financial incentives and the award categories. “As you heard, we will have two types of awards: the traditional contest and the academic contest… with three categories in each. We have 'Semillas Arribeñas' (Seeds of the Highlands), which is for children ages 6 to 12 in both the traditional and academic categories. In these categories, the first-place winner will receive 4,000 pesos, the second-place winner 2,000 pesos, and the third-place winner 1,000 pesos…” By: Osvaldo Martínez
