Tribute to Frame Drummer Layne Redmond ~ Heartbeat of the Mother Women and Percussion ©1998
Tribute to Frame Drummer Layne Redmond ~ Heartbeat of the Mother Women and Percussion ©1998 This is an early creative project of mine, to define early, I'm referring to the early stages of developing my vision and my creative voice as an artist. This is also my first effort at film making from conception to completion and I'm delighted that I can share it here with the public for educational purposes. The technology at the time was all analogue, from film through the editing process as you will see and hear! :) Thank you for viewing, enjoy and share! This film is dedicated to the memory and legacy of Layne Redmond (1952-2013) Composer, Drummer, Author, Filmmaker, Educator. May her strong and growing legacy continue to pollinate and flourish. This short video project was inspired by my mission to connect more deeply with my Divine Feminine and my curiosity about the tradition of the priestesses of percussion. I discovered through my research and the making of this video that indeed, the Divine Feminine lives within each one of us and can be expressed/shared through the rhythm of the drum. Layne Redmond and her book When the Drummers Were Women was a prime resource and inspiration for this short video. I had the honor to witness firsthand her mastery, wisdom, breadth and wealth of scholarship of the history and tradition of women percussionists. What I know is that we share a deep desire to connect with each other in community and to connect to ourselves spiritually. I also know that we instantly connect with the rhythm and the sound of the drum because of the primordial nature and connection to our heartbeat. Therefore, gathering in community to share in percussion music, dance, rhythms, song, celebration and play are essential the well being, healing and evolution of human consciousness and will continue to flourish as it has for millennia. My hope is that more and more women, men and children are inspired to create, express and especially play in this way together in our contemporary times. All of the live event coverage and interviews were gathered on location from Long Beach to Dana Point to San Diego California. I wish to extend my deep gratitude to Layne Redmond, all of the powerful women interviewed, the dancers and musicians of the N. County San Diego drum circle community and all other contributors to this labor of love. ~Lórien Co-Creator, Director Womb with a View Productions ©1997-1998 All Rights Reserved
