Vernon Duke: Symphony No. 3 in E

Vernon Duke: Symphony No. 3 in E (1946) Honolulu Symphony Orchestra conducted by Robert La Marchina Born Vladimir Dukelsky in Czarist Russia in 1903, later famous American composer Vernon Duke became best known for his music for Broadway writing such famous songs as "April in Paris." Having earlier in his life composed classical works including three symphonies, his departure from Russia and the Bolshevik Revolution brought him ultimately to the United States where Dukelsky was advised by none other than George Gershwin to take the nom de plume of Vernon Duke by which he is best known today. The Symphony No. 3 was dedicated to the wife of Serge Koussevitzky, Natalie, a dedication which was later revoked due to a major disagreement between Duke and the Koussevitzky family. It is a symphony which is long overdue to be commercially recorded. Hello, Naxos?
