I encountered some mushrooms I'd never seen before at a farmer's market deep in the mountains. They were bigger than I'd imagined, and I was shocked to discover they could be eaten raw. Seriously, my perception of mushrooms has changed. lol This time, I visited Yamanao Nishikawa (formerly Wakabaya) in Nishikawa Town, Yamagata, and Mushroom Stand in Funagata Town. While touring places recommended in comments, I enjoyed wild nameko mushrooms and other fragrant mushrooms. At Yamanao Nishikawa, I was touched by the warmth of the storekeeper, and was drawn into the depths of mushrooms. (Thank you so much!!!) Next, I headed to the rumoredly popular Funagata Mushroom Stand. What do raw mushrooms taste like? I even went to Atago Ayuba and ate some sweetfish with roe. 🤫 And back at the old house, I enjoyed a mushroom feast! Mushroom rice, Tobitake mushroom rice, grilled mushrooms, and wild nameko mushroom soup...it's just amazing. An autumn feast and human warmth found in the quiet mountains.
