Get AMAZED by Polonnaruwa - Exploring the Ancient City | SRI LANKA SERIES

After an amazing day of hiking Sigiriya & Pidurangala, we are spending the day in Polonnaruwa. This UNESCO World Heritage site is the second ancient capital of Sri Lanka, after Anuradhapura, and houses many well-preserved ruins and Buddha statues. Home to many former Sinhalese kings and once the resting place of the holy tooth relic of Buddha. You will be wandering through ancient palaces, picturesque shrines, and impressive temples dating back to the 11th century AD. Before planning our trip to Sri Lanka, we had never heard of Polonnaruwa and after visiting Anuradhapura we were wondering what to expect from yet another ancient city. After this day we can only say WOW! This hidden gem really impressed us with its beauty and is absolutely worth visiting. The ruins are better preserved & many statues are in very good condition, compared to Anuradhapura, making it easier to get a glimpse of Sinhalese history.
