Melbourne Moomba [1955] Parade This is 16mm footage of the first Moomba Parade in 1955 which took place in Swanston Street, Melbourne. The photography for this video is from the corner of Swanston Street and Collins Street (near Melbourne Town Hall) viewed south towards St Kilda Road. There is the iconic Flinders Street Station in the top right of the street view and in the distance, the War Memorial. The American entertainer, Spike Jones and the City Slickers' Band were performing in Melbourne in 1955 at the time and Spike Jones is in the parade at 4:38 in a car with members of his band. Moomba (also known as the Moomba Festival) is held annually in Melbourne, Australia. Run by the City of Melbourne, it is Australia's largest free community festival. The Melburnian tradition is celebrated over four days, incorporating the Labour Day long weekend, from Friday to the second Monday in March.
