Car Battery Testing Using A Multimeter - How To DIY
In this Quick tip video I show how to test a car battery using only a multimeter, with the battery still in the vehicle. Simple Easy Tests I showcase 3 basic car battery tests with included testing details: 1. Battery voltage aka resting rate - This is checked with your vehicle turned off. A car battery should hold a base level charge dependant on various conditions. 2. Starting / Cranking Voltage aka Voltage Drop Test / Battery Load Test - This is checked while you crank the engine to see what the voltage drop of your battery is when the starter is engaged. Peak starting current/amp draw. A weak battery can give you a slow or no crank no start condition. 3. Alternator Charge Rate Test - This value shows the alternator charge rate going into the car battery. The alternator type in the vehicle plays a significant role in the expected results of this test. If you have a battery sensor around your negative battery lead/clamp expect a wider voltage range for ok results.
